The energy bets of EYATH

The president of EYATH S.A , Agis M. Papadopoulos, attended this years Thessaliniki Summit, participating yesterday in the panel of “Energy imbalances and Energy cooperation in Southeastern Europe”.

“Climate change and the increasingly frequent extreme weather events it causes, the security of energy supply with the volatility of energy costs and a volatile economic environment, with frequently disrupted supply chains, are the three factors that shape the framework within which we are called upon to plan and act”, pointed out Mr. Papadopoulos, referring to companies such as EYATH that operate critical infrastructure.

As important tools for reducing energy costs and environmental footprint, Mr. Papadopoulos highlighted 1. improving the energy efficiency of our processes, with continuous targeted interventions, both in water and wastewater treatment facilities and in networks, with the help of IT and artificial intelligence, and 2. reducing the cost of renewable energy sources which, in combination with new commercial forms of their exploitation, such as PPAs, allow for stability in planning on a medium-term basis.

As the president of EYATH said, in 2023 the company achieved a 33% reduction in its carbon footprint compared to 2022, thanks to the implementation of its sustainability action plan, but also due to the improvement of the electricity provider’s CO2 emission factor.

At this year’s Thessaloniki Summit, discussions focused on the coming day on Southeast Europe and the Balkans, migration flows and human rights in the region, as well as on Europe-US relations after the recent American elections and current international developments, which are shaping critical balances with a strong impact on business.
