Map of EYATH water sources, aqueducts and water supply pipes for the Thessaloniki urban area.

The wider Thessaloniki urban area’s water needs are around 260,000 m3 a day on average (taking 2017 as the benchmark) and are met by EYATH S.A. from the 3 main water supply sources:

  1. Aliakmon River, through the Thessaloniki Water Treatment Plant (surface water),
  2. The Aravissos springs in the Prefecture of Pella (source water), and
  3. Boreholes in the plain of Thessaloniki (groundwater).

Since the Thessaloniki Water Treatment Plant became operational in 2003, water has primarily been supplied to the Thessaloniki urban area from the Aliakmon River and the Aravissos springs, with boreholes playing a significantly lesser role.
