The new, completely renovated EYATH office building at Egnatia St. 127 “entered” the top five most visited buildings, in a long list of 70 buildings presented at this year’s Open House Thessaloniki (November 23-24, 2024).
To be precise, 677 people passed through the doors of EYATH’s “green” office building and were toured around by Open House volunteers on the ground floor, on a conventional office floor and on the top 8th floor, on the building’s balcony under the photovoltaics, with a panoramic view of the AUTH campus, the Thessaloniki International Fair and the Fountain!
“Extreme!” for a public building, “Switzerland!”, “we would love to work here too” were just some of the comments from the visitors. The rotating blinds for sun protection, the building’s energy advantages and the facilities it provides for the disabled impressed visitors, especially those who had already wisited the old building from 1970, when the Consumer Affairs Directorate was still housed on the ground floor.
At the same time, the Water Supply Museum, an old “familiar” of Open House, was visited this time by 395 people, who were guided by the volunteers of the organization to the installation of the old central pumping station.
In this year’s architectural organization of OPEN HOUSE, the public had the opportunity to explore 70 buildings and participate in a multitude of parallel activities. The event aims to promote understanding of the city’s contemporary architecture and architectural heritage through free guided tours of private and public spaces by OH volunteers. This year’s event highlighted the key issues of inclusion and accessibility, areas to which EYATH attached great importance during the renovation of the Egnatia administration building.
