Kaftanzoglio: The fountain is working again!

To mark this year’s World Water Day (March 22), EYATH proceeded with the restoration of the historic fountain at the entrance of the Kaftanzoglio Stadium—yet another project aimed at upgrading public space and enhancing the social experience.

EYATH undertook the construction and electrical work, the restoration of the fountain’s underwater pump systems, and the installation of lighting, delivering it as another jewel for the city. “On the occasion of World Water Day, we at EYATH choose to honor—through tangible action—the element we serve every day: water. The restoration of the historic fountain at the Kaftanzoglio Stadium is both a symbolic and a substantive initiative to improve the urban environment, following the installation of a series of public drinking fountains along the New Waterfront and in the center of Thessaloniki, in collaboration with the Municipality of Thessaloniki.” “In this way, we too are contributing to the overall upgrading of the Kaftanzoglio Stadium, which is making a dynamic comeback on the sporting map,” notes Agis Papadopoulos, Chairman of EYATH.

Alongside highlighting water as a vital element of the city at the Kaftanzoglio Stadium, EYATH organized a voluntary tree-planting event for company employees and their families at the Kalochori Lagoon, thereby combining water with sustainable environmental management. In collaboration with the environmental organization “We4All,” parents and children planted 120 tamarisk and pine saplings in an area of great ecological significance that nevertheless faces challenges regarding pollution and ecosystem degradation. A forester briefed the volunteers on proper planting techniques and the area’s specific characteristics; they hoed, planted, and watered the trees, and—most importantly—ensured that the saplings would receive the necessary ongoing care from the “We4All” team. World Water Day, a UN initiative observed annually on March 22, is dedicated in 2026 to the importance of sustainable water resource management and the role of water as a foundation for equality, prosperity, and societal development, under the slogan “Where water flows, equality grows.” Aligning itself with UN goals, EYATH views the protection of water resources and the natural environment as an ongoing responsibility toward society and future generations.
