In a model bioclimatic house – “celebration for our city”, in the “Lighthouse of the World” in Dendropotamos, EYATH celebrated this year’s World Environment Day, whose theme for 2024 is land restoration and drought resistance.
The management of the company took a tour of the experiential garden of the “Lighthouse” and saw the works for the installation of a new rainwater collection system, which is gradually being completed with the support of EYATH and aims to minimize water consumption and reduce the cost of food production at home.
“We consider our house to be the permanent celebration of our city and its active entrepreneurs, who, like EYATH, feel the need to participate in its completion with a strong sense of social responsibility and genuine passion”, pointed out Father Athenagoras, soul of the “Lighthouse”, presenting their ecological achievements and plans. “We enrich our garden with organic materials, burying fruit and vegetables unsuitable for eating and making our own natural compost. Soon we will also complete the rainwater collection system for irrigation, a donation from EYATH, in order to minimize water consumption. We have also proceeded with the installation of photovoltaics and we are waiting for DEDDIE complete the connection to the house”, he added.
“For EYATH, it is very important to build relationships of trust with the local community, especially where there is the greatest need. Our presence here, at the ‘Lighthouse of the World’, apart from supporting this very important initiative, wants to highlight the importance we give to best environmental practices, related to saving energy and water”, pointed out the president of EYATH , Agis Papadopoulos.
“EYATH seeks with its actions to return value to consumers and is certainly close to all initiatives that promote environmental practices, much more so in areas with problems such as Dendropotamos. With “Faros” in particular, we have a stable cooperation and we are delighted to follow its environmental initiatives at all stages, from the initial idea to its implementation and evolution”, pointed out the managing director of EYATH, Anthimos Amanatidis.
At the same time, this year’s EYATH campaign for Environment Day seeks to raise awareness among the people of Thessaloniki on the issue of the protection of sewerage networks with the slogan “Take care of the sewerage!”. More than 1,000 times a year, the company’s crews unclog sewers that have been blocked by solid waste: toilet paper, cotton swabs, wipes, batteries, medicines and mainly food scraps, which are also prime food for insects and rodents. An average household throws over a liter of cooking fat and oil down the kitchen sink every year, causing blockages in the internal networks of homes and businesses, as well as problems with pumping stations and sewage systems, which is translated in valuable time and costs for repairs and maintenance. We therefore do not throw solid waste down the drains and the kitchen sink, throw it in bins or recycle it.
In the context of the World Environment Day, EYATH also supports the environmental awareness actions for primary school children organized by the Municipality of Thessaloniki in Nea Paralia, at the Park of the Seasons (June 4, 5, 6), in collaboration with S.S.E. D. ANAKEM and the association “Friends of Nea Paralia”.
