The chairmanship of the Drinking Water Committee (EU1) of EurEau, the European Federation of Water Supply and Sewerage Associations, was taken over by Dr. Nicoletta Xanthopoulou, Head of the Laboratory of the Thessaloniki Water Treatment Plant of EYATH.
Ms. Xanthopoulou was unanimously elected chairman of the Drinking Water Committee together with the German director of the Berlin Water Treatment Plant, Gesche Grützmacher. The election took place after a secret ballot on 23 May 2025, in Brussels, in the context of the biennial elections of EurEau. With the full support of EYATH S.A. and the Association of Municipal Water Supply and Sewerage Enterprises, an official member of EurEau, Ms. Xanthopoulou takes on the first year of her term as deputy president, while in the second year she will exercise the duties of president of the Commission.
Addressing the impacts of climate change on water, protecting water sources and controlling pollution at source, addressing challenges such as micropollutants in water (PFAs, biocides, bisphenol, microplastics), investing in innovative technologies and the modernization of infrastructure and, above all, ensuring the “polluter pays” principle are just some of the topics that the current presidency will address. “The commitment I made in Thessaloniki almost 20 years ago to ensure clean, safe water for my fellow citizens is now expanding, reaching 500 million of our European citizens,” said Ms. Xanthopoulou, presenting her goals at the EurEau General Assembly.
EurEau also elected an executive board, while the term of office of the European federation was renewed by the Swedish Pär Dalhielm.
EYATH maintains its commitment to creating a supportive and flexible working environment, offering equal opportunities and room for development to its employees.
