Water Day and EYATH

Groundwater and its importance in tackling the climate crisis is the topic of this year’s celebration of World Water Day, March 22.

EYATH, again this year, will celebrate it with the residents of Thessaliniki in two separate stands in the city center (in Agia Sofia St./ Tsimiski St. and in Aristotelous Sqr, near Tsimiski St.), sharing information material and pots with an obvious symbolism: the care for the environment and especially for the water resources, which will promote the well-being of citizens and sustainability.

Groundwater is in fact an invisible common resource and is needed, joint and international action to make this valuable natural resource sustainable. The local implementation of the Basin Management Plans is expected to further improve the quantity and quality of our underground aquifers.

At the same time, EYATH supports a day at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki entitled “Techniques and tools for the definition of protection zones of water and groundwater abstraction projects”, which will be held in Cyprus, March 21-22, within the 12th International Hydrogeological Conference of Greece, under the auspices of the Department of Geology of AUTh. Water well protection zones are an important tool in preventing the pollution of our underground water reserves. Their demarcation requires modern tools and techniques and utilizes a large amount of data.

The stands in Agia Sofia and Aristotelous will be set up on Tuesday, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.
