Let’s focus on water, this summer too!

We are called to a collective, joint action to save our precious natural resource, water, this summer, given that its adequacy is to a certain extent… in our hands!

The climate crisis with high temperatures and water shortages in various regions of the country do not allow us to rest, but on the contrary lead us to remember all these simple everyday tips for saving our water.

Especially indoors, at homes and offices:

We turn off the taps: we do not let water run unnecessarily when we brush our teeth, shave or wash our hands.

We immediately repair all leaks: running cisterns, dripping taps consume much more water than we think.

We take short showers: we don’t fill the bathtub, we take quick showers with moderate pressure – 1/5 of the water we use in our homes is consumed in the bathroom!

Being thoughtful with dishes/clothes: we only turn the dishwasher on when it’s full and we prefer to wash dishes in a basin, instead of leaving the tap running. Similarly, we make sure that the washing machine is full.

We choose “smart” appliances: we invest in low-water and energy-consuming appliances and choose water-saving programs in our daily lives.

We systematically monitor our consumption: EYATH accounts allow us to monitor our consumption history. We make our comparisons and show restraint when we see large deviations.

In outdoor spaces, yards, gardens:

We water by the… clock: We water early in the morning or late in the afternoon, to reduce water evaporation.

We choose the irrigation systems in our garden: we use drip systems or irrigation pipes for targeted watering at the roots and not a hose. We don’t even use a hose for cleaning, we just… wipe!

Generally, we maintain our appliances, washing machines and dishwashers, to ensure efficient operation, and above all we are mindful of which of our activities consume the most water, so that we can adjust our behavior accordingly.

As water scarcity is a chronic problem that has worsened in recent years due to the climate crisis, proper water management by all parties involved is now an imperative national need and a European requirement: just last week the E.U. asked its member states to contribute to saving water across the Union by at least 10% by 2030.
