The “green” EYATH administration building on Egnatia St. 127 received an award in the “Renovation” category at the 3rd “Aluminum & Architecture” Exhibition & Awards. The proposal was submitted by the companies K- Architects and Ecoframe – T. Kechagidis & Co. EE.
A total of 95 projects participated in the exhibition, of which 87 were in competition and 8 were out of competition, coming from Greek aluminum construction companies and architectural firms. Completed projects from the last five years, regardless of type, with the application of aluminum systems in the shell, indoors and windows or special constructions of the building, participated.
The award-winning EYATH administration building is a model building in the center of Thessaloniki with high energy – environmental performance and a unique architectural style. It is a building with almost zero energy consumption (energy class A+), has LED lighting, facilities for the disabled, an event hall, modern automation and control systems, and accommodates about 100 employees. Externally, the building’s shell recalls the original construction of the 1970s and combines sandblasted glass panels with translucent glass movable blinds, which ensure ample light and at the same time sun protection. Its glass “trunk” is compatible with the contours of the neighboring apartment buildings in a key area between the AUTH campus, the TIF and Kamara. The building was constructed by Railway Works ATE, the architectural design was done by K-Architects E.E., the E/M and energy design by K. Sarropoulos, the static design by Concept Consulting Engineers S.A. and the acoustic design by G. Hadjigeorgiou. The project was supervised by a committee of engineers from the Strategic Planning, Projects and Development Directorate of EYATH under the director Alexandros Mentes.
A total of 18 equal awards were given in the event in 6 categories: Sustainability, Tourism & Hospitality, Innovation, Complexity, Renovation, Public Favorite. The “Aluminum & Architecture” awards and the “Alumini” awards have now become an institution, rewarding the work of notable people in the aluminum industry, as well as architectural projects that are distinguished by design, construction and sustainability criteria.
