The Minister of Environment and Energy, Thodoros Skylakakis, was briefed about the development of EYATH’s investment program and the management of water resources in the wider area of Thessaloniki, from the company’s management, during his visit to the city due to his visit to Agrotica exhibition.
The minister supervising EYATH, who even visited the company’s new, bioclimatic building at Egnatia St. 127, was informed about the course of EYATH’s investment program, with an emphasis on the completion of the repair and strengthening projects of the Aravissos pipeline “in operation with the most modern technology for the reinforcement of reinforced and prestressed concrete”, as explained by the vice president of the company, Grigoris Penelis.
The issue of dealing with the problems related to climate change was also discussed, at a strategic level and especially for the wider area of Thessaloniki, with an emphasis on the areas of water resources management and flood phenomena. As the president of EYATH, Agis Papadopoulos, explained, “for a company like ours, which manages the operation of the critical infrastructure of water supply and sewage with a strict framework of environmental legislation and with a regulated pricing policy, the challenges in the modern era increase exponentially” .
The minister showed particular interest in the issue of the completion of the connection of the low-lying areas of the Thessaloniki Urban Complex with the Central Sewerage Pipe, a project which will finally, after more than 30 years, ensure that… self-evidently, all of its wastewater ends up at the Thessaloniki Sewage Treatment Plant. As explained by the managing director of EYATH, Anthimos Amanatidis, “this is a critical environmental protection project in Western Thessaloniki, a project that will substantially improve the quality of life of the residents of the area”.
Finally, Mr. Skylakakis was informed by the management of EYATH about the prospect of expanding EYATH’s activities in the regional unit of Thessaloniki and outside the Urban Complex, a prospect linked to the ongoing expansion projects of the Water Treatment Facility in Sindos, which also will allow doubling the amount of water available.
