The connection of the Aliakmonas – Aravissos aqueducts has been completed

  • An important project was implemented for the water supply of Thessaloniki
  • Alternative water supply of a significant part of the city is also provided by Aliakmonas
  • Phase 2 of the connection was completed according to schedule and without interruption of water supply

With the implementation of the second sub-project of the Aliakmonas – Aravissos aqueducts on Sunday 1st December 2019, a major project for the supply of the Thessaloniki Planning Group and, consequently, for the quality of life of its citizens, was completed.

Thanks to the excellent coordination and uninterrupted work of the EYATH crew and partners, the supply continued uninterruptedly throughout the 2nd and final phase of the project, without any water interruptions in Eastern Thessaloniki.

Completion of the works now enables the company to better manage the available water reserves throughout the Town Planning and, in case of emergency, allows alternative water supply to the center of Thessaloniki and from Aliakmonas and not only from Aravissos, as was the case until now. To remind you, the first sub-project was successfully completed in early October at the intersection of Dodecanissou and Egnatia streets.

On the occasion of the completion of the connection works of the two aqueducts, Mr. Narkissos Georgiadis, Managing Director of the Thessaloniki Water Supply and Sewerage Company SA, said: “It is the completion of a major project for Thessaloniki, which not only solves the important issues that have plagued citizens for years, but it also lays the groundwork for the future of our city and the improvement of the quality of life. Our development program continues with major repair and maintenance work on major water pipes and the second phase of the Thessaloniki Water Treatment Plant, which will significantly increase the amount of water available and create the conditions for expanding the network to new areas. “
